Chef Michael Raethong discovered his interest in cooking at the age of five by helping his mother in the kitchen in his homeland of Thailand. That fascination with food started him on a culinary journey that brought him to the United States in 1988. Two years later, he opened his first restaurant, Lemon Grass Thai Restaurant in Philadelphia.
Over the past 18 years, he has been involved in the opening of many restaurants in the Philadelphia area including Royal Thai Orchid in Frazer and Thai Orchid in Berwyn. His latest culinary venture is the opening of Thai L'Elephant in Phoenixville. Chef Raethong says, "We are proud to be in Phoenixville and are looking forward to growing together with this unique town."
Thai L'Elephant offers traditional Thai dishes with a French influence. Chef Raethong has created innovative dishes based on both countries' tradition and his passion for world cuisine. The diverse menu is appealing to anyone's palate. According to Chef Raethong, "freshness is the key to making quality food so whenever possible, fresh, locally grown vegetables and herbs are used in the preparation of dishes."
Adding to his impressive credentials, Chef Raethong has won several awards from Philadelphia Magazine "Philly Cooks" Best Presentation, Best of Philly, Best of Mainline and Best of The Show - Taste of South Jersey.
With all of his experience and awards, Chef Raethong offers a very simple philosophy, "We continue Thai tradition to treat our customers like royalty by maintaining the service and quality of food they have come to expect."
