My walls surrounding the doorways in my foyer are badly nicked and since they are faux painted, I cannot fix them myself. Other than calling another painter, can you give me an idea as to how I can cover these areas and make my foyer look better?

Firstly, didn't the faux finisher see the dings in the walls or were they working by candlelight? Never mind! At this stage it is now a 'turn adversity to advantage' scenario. The classic Bishop Sleeve Drapery Treatment adds both softness and camouflage to a wall that has not been finished in the most careful of ways. Requiring 7 yards of fabric, (and 7 yards of lining if you are aiming for professional status), a pine board, two angle brackets, 4 cuphooks and a staple gun, you can repair this visual malady and make it even better than before. You can have a professional do this, or if you are handy, can do it yourself.

Measure your ceiling to floor length and add 10" for each 'puff,' 8" for a double, 4" hem and 1" to have some fabric to staple to the board. Sew your hem either by hand or by machine and staple both panels to the pine board which you have cut to the width of the doorway opening, evenly dispersing the fabric of the panels that meet in the middle. Screw the two angle brackets into your wall 1" down from the ceiling line, lay your fabric board on them and screw again, securing your attached paneled board.

Next, take 4 cuphooks and measure down from the ceiling in approximate thirds on both sides of the door.Take string or ribbon and loop tightly around the fabric panel one third down plus 10" and knot the loop. Now hang the tied loop onto the cuphook. You have now made your first Bishop Sleeve! Repeat this procedure on the three remaining 'puffs.'

You have now sewn and installed a classic Bishop Sleeve treatment over your doorway. Step back, admire your hard work and ingenuity. The final step now is to remove the faux finishers' information from your Blackberry. Now that that has been done... next question?
